Canadian Wilderness Fly-in Fishing and Hunting Trips

june 15 2013

Perfect weather has been around for weeks. Sunny, wind to keep the bugs down, and 70 degrees. Nice! Water temp is warming up into the low 60s now. Fish are still shallow with trout being able to be in any depth yet but jigging is getting large catches over 40 feet of water. The Dan Dougherty group caught over 200 walleye on the main lake last week with 28″ being the biggest but dozens over 23″. Dave Kennedy got the biggest walleye so far on the main lake at 29″ on the far end of the lake. Walleye are being caught mostly with bottom bouncers with spinner rigs and crawlers or leeches on it trolling in 15′ or less. Quite a few 30+ pike have been caught last week with a nice 38″ fatty from Marv Burd.

Trout as usual are everywhere and no problem taking large catches of them on diver vibes or trolling with spoons and snap weights or dipsy’s to get them down to 20’+. Hardly anyone has been in the portage lakes since the fishing has been so good on the main lake. This year the smaller lakes will probably hardly be touched
