Canadian Wilderness Fly-in Fishing and Hunting Trips

July Fishing on Atikwa Lake

Hello everybody, hope you’re all having a wonderful summer!

It’s been hot and stormy here at camp this month. After our early season drought the rain has shown up with lots of humidity and thunderstorms throughout. There’s been a few big ones around, but luckily no damage to the island.

The fishing has been good throughout the month. July is the month of the big walleye as they concentrate onto the open water structure and can make for some fantastic days of fishing. The Duehring family was up the first week of July and had a great time on the lake. They caught some big pike and really enjoyed their adventures around Atikwa. Can’t wait to see them again. My Dad was up for a week and caught many large walleyes, capped off by a 32″ monster. Seth and Conor shields spent a week with us and quite enjoyed their time. They loved wandering around the woods looking for lost pieces of history.

Bob, Katie and Ellla  made the trip to Atikwa for a week and had a great time. They enjoyed catching some big walleyes on the main lake as well as their adventures to our back lakes. Their favourite is waterfall lake, the fishing is good and if you get too hot it’s a great place for a swim!

We’ve been working cleaning up camp and doing some renovations to cabin 6 in our down time. Bear season is winding up now, hopefully we see some good bears hanging around the lake after not being bothered for 4 years. maybe even a colour phase or two!

It looks like the mid summer heat is on its last few days and we’ll be back to the cooler nights, which means less bugs and better sleeps!

that’s all for now, Can’t wait to see you on the dock!
