Canadian Wilderness Fly-in Fishing and Hunting Trips

COLD water fishing

The fishing season started very late with the ice going out mid to late may. That means the trout started out scattered everywhere due to the cold water temps. Jigging was poor because the concentrations of trout were not there but trolling was working well with orange and gold spoons, diver vibes and small cranks. Terry Holloway’s group caught close to 400 trout in 4 days. The Futrells love to jig but were forced to troll and did good once they figured it out. John owens group is still here and john boated a 43″ northern and Brett a 38″ northern and a 38″ musky. The trout are just starting to concentrate and the slot by camp is getting full of them. We went out to get some to smoke and caught 10 in 20 minutes and had another 5 on. Diver vibes and white jigs have been working. The dan schantz group from Indiana caught lots of trout again and a bunch of northern in Rainmaker and no name lake. The water level is way up from last year, and the weather has been perfect. Sunny days, hi’s in the 60s with very little rain. Walleye did good in the portage lakes in 3′ of water but they have just spawned on the main lake and are hard to find right now but will move to their normal june spots soon.
