Canadian Wilderness Fly-in Fishing and Hunting Trips

August 9

Didnt have much for fishing reports in july because I went home to my family and jake and alex worked on the camp. Had a few groups in but I get too homesick in my old age to stay here all season. Fishing was good with the portage lakes really producing the most. Crooked, storm and hidden were best. Now in August the trout are deep and we’re getting them jigging, trolling with dipsy divers, mooching sinkers and down riggers. Trolling with flashy spoons, orange/gold hammered, blue/silver are hard to beat. Water temperature actually went down last week with temps feeling like fall but this week is supposed to be hot and humid. Northerns are sitting deeper off the rock shelves, trolling with shad rap type baits close to shore is working. Windy days hit the sunken islands and reefs with bucktails and safety pin spinners in the weeds. Try buzz baits on top for action. Walleye are hitting in the portage lakes and on the north end. Still 15′ or less with leech spinner rigs, crawlers or 1/8 oz white twister tail and jig tipped with leech or crawler. Musky lake has been awesome this year with lots of follows and several nice fish being taken.

Troop 21 came up with 20 scouts and chaperones and did very well. Kids got their badges in a few things, learned boating, and caught fish. Lots of fun to have them in camp. Craig Yager and his brother were up, winners of the Mukwonago/Kettle moraine high school gymnastics team fund raiser. Caught their first lake trout in Canada ever, walleye in the portage lakes and even a musky. Also had a little adventureĀ helping us find a lost boater after dark so thanks! The Gremillions were here again and always do good on the portage lakes. Enjoyed having them in camp again and got to catch up on whats going on in their busy lives.

Fall is coming which means trout will be schooling up and all the fishing should just get better.
