Yesterday was rough here on the island, especially on the dock. A constant 30 mph south wind with gusts to 40 mph slammed the camp. Shane had a hard time docking the twin beach and a harder time getting it off the dock. The new arrivals were not allowed to fish until evening because it was just too dangerous. The groups that were in camp last week did real well. Some new guests to Atikwa, Greg and Julie Egan had a great time getting to know the lake. They took a guide for the first 2 days and then went on their own and caught a lot of trout jigging down south and a bunch of walleye up in Tail bay. Julie, who is a fisheries major at UW Stevens Point caught a 36" FAT northern in Horn Bay and even got some lessons on filleting fish from Alex. The Rodger Futrell group came up and caught the most fish they ever did. They have been coming up once or twice a year for the last 5 years and just keep doing better every year. They finally started jigging trout and 3 1/2 guys (Rodger) caught over 100 trout in 4 days. As I write this the weather has turned perfect and is supposed to stay nice for the next few days. Bugs have finally hatched so we need a little wind or in the evening they get bad. Keep checking back for more reports.
