Weather had been fairly nice for a few days after the last big cold front last week but it rained again last night so the boat house is still flooded and we only have about an inch to go before it's over our dock. Really could use a 3 week drought. Trout fishing has been doing pretty good with some big fiss taken on down riggers last week. The Paul Horvate family was up and Nate and Page both caught a big trout. I believe Nate got a 28 incher and Page got a 27 inch. Ceelia (sorry if that's spelled wrong) spent time northern fishing from the dock and also caught some trout. Paul was guided to a bunch of walleye by Alex on the main lake but never got the trophy northern he was looking for. A very nice Wisconsin family that we enjoyed having here. Seeing those cute little girls made me homesick though. Elliott, Collin and John Kressin were up and caught trout with dipsy divers and a few jigging. Went walleye fishing the last evening to limit out on walleye and that went well. Alex and I went to Bear trap lake to repair a boat and then fished yesterday for a few hours and got a bunch of walleye. I got a big 25 incher on a leech and spinner rig. Last week fishing was still a little slow with the walleye doing good shallow with leeches and 1/8 oz jigs. Some in 3' of water. Trout are scattered yet but can get quite a few trolling with spoons or small cranks, but the northern have been off. We did real good on them the other day with rattle traps. Portage lakes are very wet so bring boots if you're going to them but good news is the biting flys are getting better.
