Bear hunting started August 15th with very hot weather and a blueberry crop not quite ended yet. Even with those conditions 4 bears out of 5 hunters were taken with 100% opportunity. The first 7 days 25 bears were seen and most hunters were done in the first 4 days. All were average sized bears with several bigger ones seen but passed up early in the hunt.
The second week still had hot weather but the berry crop is done and immediately we were having bigger bears hitting the bait. Jeff Turkal with the Daniel Boone Club came up and saw 4 bears in 2 days and ended his hunt quickly with a perfectly arrowed 240 pound male. The weather has cooled to highs of around 70 degrees now and we have every bait being hit hard and 11 different shooter bears being seen on our trail cams with new ones showing up everyday.
As the season goes along it just gets better and better. Unusually hot and dry year.
